Imagine having to cut ten thousand pieces of four inch round bar stock and have them finished by a week from now! That little saw back in the corner of the shop would not be able to handle the work load. For bigger jobs there are bigger machines as well as CNC controlled saws which automatically feed and cut the parts, often with very close dimensional tolerance. Heavy duty saws are able to handle cutting an extremely large amount of cuts. These industrial strength saws are generally found in foundries or metal supply houses. The concepts are the same as those used on the smaller saws found everywhere. The development of the saw blade went to the extreme, and probably the average novice machinist would not be aware of these techniques. |
